The Best Fitness Advice To Get You Into Shape Is… Just Do It
The other day, I got into a conversation with one of my friend’s older brothers. This guy is a machine when it comes to working out. He gets up at five in the morning, says his prayers, goes to the gym, from the gym he goes to work, then after work he goes to the gym again or goes for a 12-mile run! And to make it clear, this guy is ripped, weighing 190 pounds with almost no body fat.
Now, why am I bringing this up? Because while we were talking, he mentioned that he knows very little when it comes to working out. That’s right, this ridiculously fit guy who works out twice a day knows very little about working out!
His exact words were something along the lines of, “I go to the gym, and there are guys doing super sets. I have no idea what a super set is, I don’t know how you’re supposed to eat when you work out, or the science behind muscle growth. I just know to generally eat healthy and that I can bench 3 times as much as most of the guys who do know this stuff.” (Hey, was he referring to me!?)
So if this guy doesn’t know much about working out, what’s his trick for getting into such amazing shape? It’s that he knows in general what he has to do, and just does it. In other words, he doesn’t know the science behind working out, but he knows he needs to eat a healthy and balanced diet, that he needs to lift weights, and he needs to run. Then he makes some sort of program for himself, and no matter what, sticks to it.
Herein Lies The Best Fitness Advice That I Could Possibly Give You
When it comes down to it, we could spend a lifetime learning about how the body works and analyzing the nutritional values of different foods, but that wouldn’t make us fit and strong. Make a program for yourself, even the most basic one, and just do it. Remember, while beginnings are always the toughest, once you start doing it consistently the laws of momentum are going to be there to help you out rather than push against you.
So, what are you going to do about getting fit now? Leave a comment!
Note: Rusty Moore at The Fitness Black Book wrote about exactly the same topic as me today. All I can say is that great minds think alike!

OK, but how old is this guy? 18?
Workout without knowing what u r doing when you are 40 and 50 and your shoulders and hips will scream. I understand and appreciate your sentiment, but whether you are Mr. High Intensity like Doug McGruff or a volume guy like Pavel and his KB’s, you need to put some thought, knowledge and planning into your workouts. By the way, maybe running or jumping with 20 or 40 kilos repeatedly as is likely in the army is what did in your knees. Don’t listen to the naysayers… STRETCH. Go to http://www.kalindra.com/Dontigny/homeprogram.pdf for some GREAT physical therapist stretches… all free. Todah….

Shneer,
I think you missed the point of the post. I wasn’t saying that you shouldn’t have proper workout form or a workout plan. I was saying sometimes we get too obsessed with knowing every little detail about working out, fat burning and muscle development when the best thing to get into shape is just to start doing it.
As for my knee injury. Yeah, for sure it was from running and jumping with a ton of weight on me.
