Why The First Step To Fitness Isn’t Working Out

July 12, 2009

What I’m going to tell you is probably going to go against anything that you’ve ever heard when it comes to fitness. That is that the first step to getting into great shape is not working out. In fact, it has nothing to do with exercise at all. The first step to getting into shape is nutrition. Week one of your fitness program should be 100% dedicated to changing your diet!

[A balanced diet of nuts, vegetables, fruits, lean meat, some whole wheat bread and milk products is not only healthy, but will energize your body. That being said, eating raw flowers is NOT recommended!]

Why Eating “Real Food” Is The Most Important Part Of Your Fitness Plan

The truth is that what you eat is infinitely more important than your workout routine. Your entire day revolves to some extent around eating, but only a small part is dedicated to an intense workout. That’s why what you eat has such a huge impact on your body. Afterall, you are what you eat!

The easiest way to know if you’re eating right is if you’re eating “real food.” That means sticking to lean meat, bread, vegetables, fruits and nuts and staying away from the donuts and fast food. I cannot emphasize the importance of eating real food enough. Without good eating habits, your entire exercise program will potentially be completely ineffective!

Starting off With Proper Nutrition Will Give You That “Boost” You Need To Start Working Out

Another great reason to start off your fitness plan with proper nutrition is that food has an immediate effect on how you feel. That means that while it can take a few weeks before you start feeling stronger from your exercise program, the results in how you feel from changing a diet can start to be felt within a week! After starting off with proper nutrition, you’ll already start feeling stronger, more energetic, and ready to go full blast into your exercise routine. And don’t worry, eating healthily doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy food. Just ask Caitlin!

  1. Great article. I couldn’t agree more. I own a fitness studio and see the lack of results from clients who don’t improve their diet and eating habits. The people who combine a good diet of whole foods and reasonable portions along with exercise are the ones who achieve their weight loss goals. I’ve also seen clients who refuse to give up processed junk foods fail to lose belly fat no matter how much they exercise.

  2. Jeanne,

Yeah, some people have a lot of trouble giving up junk food. One interesting thing about that though is that when you give up processed junk, you start really tasting the sweetness in natural foods!

Also, I checked out your site and thought your fitness studio looked like a really cool place to train for women.
