Sangita - Really great comment and I totally agree with you that 1) You need to look at exercise as something that adds to your everyday life and 2) Sometimes you just need to do it without thinking too hard about it. I really like how you look at fitness in a really practical, down to earth way.

Rafi this is the second time I am reading this post. One reason I feel why people don't exercise is the "Life gets in the Way". I don't know if this makes any sense. Basically it means that its a combination of all the above reasons plus you may be having some problem or issues in life. Which you may feel are overwhelming.
At such times its important to realise that exercise is very important that even a little of it goes a long way in building some mental strenght in order to face the challenges thrown at you. I some times have no other thought than "I need to sweat it out a little today". I may do that by going for a swim or climbing this killer hill a 2-3 times (its a killer believe me).
Yeah I know about consistancy, and planned work outs and carbs and proteins and blah blah blah. (I'm not bashing this believe me I'm all for planning). But there are times in life when I have gone for days with just some good rigorous cardio and clean eating(vegetables, fruits no junk) because I did'nt have the time or inclination to do anything more. And guess what I always end up doing more than what most people do for their health. You really need to put it on autopilot.
(Whew! Sorry that was long!)

Rahim - Yeah. I actually think that most people do realize how crucial consistency is but have trouble motivating themselves when they don't see results right away. It's important to give those kind of people positive reinforcement, and not negative, since sometimes all they need is that a little encouragement to keep on going. :)

I hear these axact same excuses from people I know and that's exactly what they are, Excuses. People dont' realize that getting started is the hardest part and maintaining consistency will get them the best results. I have to agree with Greg At Live Fit when he said the most important thing is to do something that gets you moving.

Greg - Absolutely.

Henry - Yeah, I was just joking around and I know that trying out for the SAS motivates you to work out. :) "People look stupid while exercising" is a pretty funny one!

Intending to tryout for the s.a.s does not stop me from working out in fact it is what motivates me to exercise. Thats a pretty comprehensive list of all the excuses people make as to why they don't exercise the most common being 'don't have time' and 'can't be bothered'. One I heard recently was 'people look stupid while exercising'.

The most important thing about exercise is to do something. Anything that gets you moving is a positive. Find something fun that you enjoy and make it part of your daily routine. Baby steps.
