Why Some People Never Gain Weight – The Weight Loss Secret That Skinny People Don’t Want You to Know!

Who doesn’t know that person who seems to eat whatever they want, whenever they want, but never seems to gain any weight. The same person who drives you crazy as they stuff their face, guilt free, with that 400 calorie fatalicous donut while you’re trying to stick to a strict diet consisting of lettuce and some nuts with no dressing.

What if I told you, that by reading this article, you can learn how to BE that person.

Why Some People Never Gain Weight

The first thing you have to understand about people who never gain weight is that they only eat when they’re hungry. Not the kind of hunger you get when you “crave” ice cream or a large piece of steak, but rather the kind of hunger you get when your body is telling you that you’re starving it and it needs food now. Which brings us to the next point…

People Who Live to Eat Versus People Who Eat to Live

What it comes down to is that there are two kinds of people. People who live to eat, and people who eat to live. The people who never gain weight and never have to worry about weight loss fall into the “people who eat to live” category, while the people who enjoy food and often think about food fall into the “people who live to eat” category.

There are a lot of people who ate to live when they were young and then as they got older and their palette became “more sophisticated”, they transformed into one of those people who live to eat. The trick to not gaining weight is to go back to being one of the people who eat to live.

The Secret To Weight Loss – The Lifestyle of “Eat to Live”

The major difference between the person who eats to live and the person who lives to eat is that the person who eats to live only eats when they’re hungry.  Therein lies the secret to weight loss…only eating when you’re sincerely hungry. It’s very possible, and even probable, that the person you see stuffing their face in now hadn’t eaten anything the entire day until that point.

In fact, the person had most likely been trying to avoid eating, lest it get in the way of more important things, up until the point they got so hungry they HAD to eat. That’s what allows them to eat however they like when they actually do eat, although in reality they’re probably taking in less calories daily than you are. There’s even an entire diet program that revolves around this concept which I’ll discuss in greater detail in another post.

How To Get the Most Out of The “Eat to Live” Lifestyle

As any skinny college kid can attest to, the biggest drawback to the “Eat to Live” lifestyle is that those who practice it often eat unhealthily. Why? Because when you’re starving yourself for most of the day until the point that you HAVE to eat, the last thing you’re going to be worrying about are vegetables and lean meat.

The only thing on your mind is taking in as many calories as possible as fast as possible to avoid your body from entering starvation mode. That’s why when you actually do see the “eat to live” people eat, they’re stuffing their face with whatever has the most calories in front of them, which is often junk.

That’s why I suggest adopting the “Eat to Live” lifestyle in moderation. Don’t adopt the lifestyle of starving yourself until you need some kind of high calorie food to keep yourself going, but rather adopt their mentality of looking at eating as a chore. Once you look at eating as a necessary nuisance, rather than a pleasure, losing weight and keeping the weight off for a lifetime becomes a whole lot easier.

There You Have It…

There you have it, now you know why some people never gain weight and how you can become one of those people. Do you know anyone in your life who can eat whatever they want and not worry about gaining weight?

Hi Rafi! Great post since losing weight, maintaining weight or good health all depend on eating. I read this amazing book “Mindless Eating” by Brian Wansink. You should check it out – its really enjoyeable! In it he gives an example of 3 year olds and 5 year olds. It seems they found 3 year olds just stopped eating when they were full regardless of the fact that there was still food left) whereas 5 years olds stopped only when the food was over. Is’nt that amazing?!
Also I think relaxing a little about your weight loss, not worrying too much about it can make you lose. Also if you enjoy the food that you eat, I mean really taste it and enjoy it you will not eat so much.

    Great post!

I’ve been trying to do this for the last three weeks and it has made a real change!

I’m convinced that I used to eat out because that was my daily routine rather than because I really needed food.

I used to get to noon and feel ravenous – now I realise that was just my body getting ready for what it was expecting, rather than what it needed. I now just go and get a cup of green tea and get back to work.

Overall results – a lot of weight loss, more time to do stuff, and (just as importantly) no post-lunch slowdown…

Sangita – Yeah, I’ve heard of “Mindless Eating”, seems like now I’ll really have to check it out. And yeah, I 100% agree with you that if you relax about weight loss and savor your food more it’s much more likely you won’t eat as much. Great point!

Fat Runner – Awesome to hear it’s been working for you. I’m sure all your friends want to know what your secret is.
